THE WORLD OF DON & MIKE! Volume One (December 1995)
Welcome to the World of Don & Mike, the two bad boys of radio whose signal originates in Washington, D.C. and is broadcast over more than fifty radio stations around these United States of America, with more to come soon!
This CD-ROM is like no other you have ever experienced. It is an adventure game that can be enjoyed in its own right. However, as listeners of Don & Mike, you will also be privy to special clues that will help you uncover secret treasures in the game. Just listen to the show and you will receive these verbal gifts straight from the mouths of Don and Mike and into your noggin.
This game is NOT easy, but if you stick to it, you will eventually find the key that will unlock the doors of the Strip Trivia Theater, a festive place where you will be able to undress any of four willing candidates and where the interface requires the use of one hand only (think about it). But along the way, you will also have great fun as you discover the secrets of this world, from the mundane of the janitor's closet to a trip through Hades itself. If you are a true fan of Don & Mike, what you will find in Hell will be more frightening than anything you can possibly imagine. But don't overlook items just because they look commonplace. Some of the secrets of the universe are locked in the most innocent of objects.

The minimal platform running Don & Mike on a Macintosh is:

Performance will greatly increase if you have a triple or quad-speed CD-ROM and more memory on your system than the miminum required. Under Windows, you may find your performance increasing if you turn off SMARTDRV and create a permanent swap file.
One hint: do not go crazy clicking rapidly around the screen. While this will not be a problem in most cases, the game will try to follow all of your instructions. Especially if your system is slow, you will be better served playing methodically and with style. This is not a drag race, people, it is a game that stimulates the mind and the libido both.
*********HOW TO PLAY THE GAME*********
This game is meant to allow you to explore at your own pace and leisure. To that end, giving you too many instructions or clues at the beginning would prevent you from discovering all of the many surprising elements we have placed in The World of Don & Mike. However, some notes are in order.
BYPASSING THE INTRODUCTION
When you first start the game, you will see a short video presenting the CD-ROM title followed by an explanation of the game by Don and Mike. After you have played the game a few times, you may wish to bypass these elements of the game. To bypass the video, press the Enter key after it has begun. To bypass the introduction by Don and Mike, press the Enter key AFTER Don appears on the screen, not before.
THE BRIEFCASE
You will notice in the bottom left hand corner of your screen a briefcase. This is a very important element of the game, as it allows you to save most of the items you find so that you can use them in other parts of the games to uncover hidden or locked items. Saving items you find is easy: just drag them onto the briefcase, at which point they disappear into it. Click on the briefcase and you will find your saved objects waiting for you therein.
To use an item you've saved in the briefcase, you will need to open it and click on the item you wish. This will automatically close the briefcase and you will see the item waiting for you at the bottom of the screen. To use it, simply drag it to the desired screen location. If the item feels at home there, it will stay, otherwise it will simply move back down to the bottom of the screen.
Only one item at a time can be kept outside the briefcase. If you open the briefcase and click on an item, it will take the place of any item that may already be sitting next to the briefcase. Don't panic: the item formerly holding fort next to the briefcase will move back inside the briefcase automatically so that you can use it later.
SAVING AND LOADING GAMES
In the briefcase you will also find a floppy disk. Click on it to display a plaque that allows you to:
-- save the current game
-- load a previously saved game
-- exit the game
-- or see the credits (please do).
Saving the game will prompt you for a file name to which to save. Use a logical name and location on your hard drive so you will not have a difficult time retrieving it later. Under Windows, you will need to make sure your file extension is ".TXT" so that the game will find your file later.
When you restore a game, you will find yourself standing in the hallway just as you had when you first started the game. However, all of your hard work has not gone to waste: all of the objects you have accumulated in your briefcase will still be in there waiting for you to use.
Remember, this game is not easy! Some places in the game are set up to not work exactly the same way twice, so keep this in mind when you think you may have located a "problem". This game has been tested thoroughly. In some places, you will think something must be wrong as you try seemingly in vain to make something work in a way that's logical. But the World of Don and Mike is not always logical! Do not despair, however: listen to the Dynamic Duo on the radio to more closely align your thought patterns with those of our Radio Gods. Then you will find yourself moving rapidly through the hallways to the promised land, where young nubile men and women are willing participants as you in all civitily let loose your primal urges.
Above all, HAVE FUN!!!! Let the Big Old Bad Old Game Begin!
